Abstract: Endophthalmitis is the most serious postoperative complication of the phacoemulsification. Using antibiotics rationally during perioperative period and disinfecting correctly and standardly during operative period play the important roles in preventing the endophthalmitis. This review discusses several relative issues, including the careful systemic prophylactic application of antibiotics, the necessity of topical antibiotic eye drops, the effectiveness of adding the antibiotics into the perfusion solution or the injection of antibiotics into anterior chamber, and the unified standard and method of the disinfection.
