Retinal oximetry is a rapid, noninvasive, new retinal vascular imaging technology, which can measure and quantitatively analyze the retinal blood oxygen saturation at all levels of retinal arterial and venous. It can be applied in the diagnosis and follow-up of many diseases such as retinal artery occlusion, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. It is an important supplement of existing imaging equipment, which can help deepen the understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis, and evaluate the condition and prognosis of the disease. Irreversible chronic retinal degenerative diseasesare the main pathology of visual loss, and current clinical management often fails to prevent disease progression. In recent years there has been substantial progress in developing stem cell treatments for these diseases. Stem cell therapy has the potential to both replace lost, and protect damaged, cells by secreting neurotrophic factors. A variety of sources, including embryonic stem cell (ESC), mesenchymal stem cell (MSC), induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and Müller cells show promise as therapeutic approaches for future cell regenerative medicine.(Int Rev Ophthalmol,  2017, 41: 153-158)

Pituitary tumor is a kind of benign tumor which originates from epithelium of adenohypophysis, the patients of which have different degerees of  visual field loss and visual acuity decrease, and corresponding fundus changes because of the specificity of its location. The visual function damage will vary a lot due to the position of the tumor. Ocular examinations that are relevant to pituitary tumor patients include visual field(VF) test, optical coherence tomography(OCT),visual evoked potential(VEP) and so on, with the former two uesed more. The thickness of parapapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and macular ganglion cells complex(GCC) in pituitary patient become thiner than healthy group, and the degree of the two changes are relative to the visual function recovery. Besides, OCT tests are becoming much more focused because its convenience and objectivity. We aimed at comparing the reports on this published in recent years, and focused on how the visual function examination works in detecting the change of the visual function in pituitary tumor patients.(Int Rev Ophthalmol,  2017,  41:   174-180)

Canaloplasty is a non-penetrating surgical procedure to lower intraocular pressure in glaucoma without a fistula or need for a bleb. Its advantages over glaucomatous filtration surgery include absence of subconjunctival scar and bleb-related problems. Evolving directly from canaloplasty, ab-interno canaloplasty (ABiC) is a new minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) procedure that can comprehensively restore the natural outflow pathways in patients with mild-to-moderate primary open angle glaucoma. Performed via a self-sealing, clear corneal incision, ab-interno approach, ABiC conserves the clinically proven benefits of 360° viscodilation of Schlemm’s canal by traditional canaloplasty. It uses breakthrough microcatheter technology to enlarge the trabecular meshwork , Schlemm’s canal and the collector channel system, improving outflow and lowering pressure. ABiC represents a truly minimally invasive, maximally effective and an excellent safety profile for reducing intraocular pressure as both a standalone procedure and when combined with cataract surgery. ABiC is also fast to perform and unlike other currently available MIGS procedures. ABiC preserves tissue and does not require the permanent placement of an implant in the eye. It has becoming a good prospect of application. (Int Rev Ophthalmol,  2017,  41:    187-191)

Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a refractory, secondary glaucoma. Its cause is complex and diverse. At present, NVG conventional treatment effect is not ideal, most to take temporary solution without a permanent cure. Anti-VEGF drug application is to provide valuable time window for anti-glaucoma surgery. This article proposed the establishment of comprehensive treatment of NVG strategy. The comprehensive treatment methods include the use of antihypertensive drugs, intraocular injection of anti-VEGF drugs, anti-glaucoma surgery alone or combined cataract extraction, vitrectomy and on the basis of completepanretinal photocoagulation treatment. The etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of NVG are summarized. The major purpose of treatment is to preserve the visual function of patients with NVG. The goal of treatment is to complete panretinal photocoagulation. The key means of treatment are anti-VEGF and anti-glaucoma surgery in order to save the patient residual visual function. Bacterial keratitis is a potentially blinding infectious corneal disease characterized by onset acute and progress fast, and it always lead to severe health complications including visual impairment and ocular penetrating when processing is not seasonable or poorly controlled. Therefore, a reliable animal model which simulates human keratitis is desperately needed and will be of important significance to conduct further study in areas such as the prevention, diagnoses as well as efficacious treatment of human bacterial keratitis. And there are many kinds of modeling approaches at home and abroad, mainly including the early scratching technique and injecting into corneal stroma, the later contact lenses method and excimer laser-in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) method as well as other models which with a little improvement on these basis, each method has its own apply condition and pro or con.  (Int Rev Ophthalmol,  2017,  41:   198-203)

Incidence of juvenile myopia increases continually. The factors of inheritance and environment have been verified as the pathogenesis of myopia, such as long hours reading and low indoor illuminance. More outdoor activity and indoor illuminance may be effective in preventing occurrence and progression of juvenile myopia. Owing to the relationship between ciliary muscle tension and myopia, anti-muscarinic receptors agents such as low-dose atropine has also been shown to provide effective myopia control. At present, the chief way for treatment of myopia is still refractive correction, such as wearing bifocal or multifocal spectacles, contact lenses or orthokeratology contact lenses (OKs). Based on the relevance of axial elongation to pathological changes and reduced ant-tensile force of in myopic sclera collagen tissue, scleral cross-linking (SXL), oral administration of 7-methylxanthine (MX) and sub-Tenon's capsule injections of hydrogel might be realistic approaches to inhibit eye elongation in highly myopic eyes, due to the ability of SXL to contract collagen fibers and increase ant-tensile force of sclera. As deep research for molecular biological mechanism of myopia, new therapies related to control and prevention juvenile myopia intervention control the progression of myopia will still appear constantly.
