Herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) is resulted from Herpes simplex virus type I(HSV-1), which features a high reoccurrence, high blindness incidence and incurability and is likely to lead to the dissolving of cornea, the formation of new vessels, and even perforating ulcer, being one of the cornea-related diseases that is deemed as the toughest one in both international and domestic relevant domains. Therefore, this paper reviews the processing methods of animal model targeting at the Herpes simplex keratitis of our country and foreign countries so far, such as primary infection model (include scratching method, trepanation and explants), latent infection pattern and recurrent infection model. A reliable nominal model is desperately needed to conduct further study in areas such as the mechanisms of HSK, medical treatment, and the transplantation of cornea.
